Parents and Teachers: The Home School Connection
I’ve said it before. Communication between parent and teacher is so crucial for a child to thrive in any school setting. It does not take much for you to drop a line here and there to find out how things are going, express concerns, and follow up with any developmental issues.
Another way you can carry the school day …throughout the day, is to take part in what your child is learning. There is always the assigned homework (even for the infants ex: work on tummy time) but really find out what they are studying and bring that into home life.
- If the children are working on writing letters, have them help you write a letter to a far away friend.
- Studying math concepts? Have him set the table (hint: this really is a math skill!)
- Learning about a country? Show pictures of different places you have been.
These experiences between you and your child not only open up communication beyond the “what did you do today” but also allows them to explore learning in new ways.
Adding these ideas do not need any extra hours in the day…Just some creativity on your part.
