You remember math in school, right? “Please take out your books and turn to page 80 and do all the even problems.”

A report from the NCTM (National Council of Teachers of Mathematics) states that parents who take part in daily mathematics is the most important factor that leads to academic excellence among students.

If you recall from my “Talk to Your Kids” post, I asked you to add language and communication in whatever you do. Now I am asking you to do the same for Math.

It is easier then you think.

  • Have them put the groceries away, sorting the fruits and veggies
  • Lots of laundry? Ask them to seperate the whites from the colors
  • Ask them to put the silverware back in the correct spot (matching)
  • In the car, count the miles to the next exit
  • At the store, ask them to figure out prices on the items they want to buy
  • Giving them an allowance? Let them count out the money

These are just a few suggestions to “add” math into your child’s life. Try it! I guarantee you will find it is the “correct” “solution”!
