Talk to Your Children

While visiting family friends over the weekend, I knew I had to tackle this issue in my next post.

Do you talk to your children? No, I mean to you talk with you children? Many parents, teachers, and caregivers I have witnessed seem to only talk to children. Such as when the children want something, ask questions, or are asking something of them.

Language is learned through communication. But what if the only open communication are responses, negativity, or screaming ?
Take the opportunity to talk with children as much as you can.

  • In the car, point out the sites along the way
  • In the classroom, ask what they did over the weekend or what they are playing in housekeeping.
  • Even if you don’t have time to read a story, tell them something about your past
  • Read directions in your recipe
  • Point out items in the grocery store

Children crave attention. Though you might be in a time crunch and running errands or caught up in lesson plans, take advantage of positive learning times.

Your children will really appreciate it and you will be surprised how much they absorb.
