“Daycares Don’t Care” Says Who?
During my daily search of child care sites, I stumbled across a web page entitled “Daycares Don’t Care”. The site is full of articles and quotes devoted to the idea that preschools don’t provide children with the care they need.
To a point, I do agree with this idea. Too many children are spending too many hours in childcare and not enough time with family. More importantly, many centers I have seen are lacking experienced teachers and faculty. The reason I created this site was to provide information about the world of child care, both negative and positive thoughts.
Libby Purves stated in The Times “not affordable care, but devoted care”. The truth is, the majority of children are being placed in child care because, with the world we live in today, both parents are forced to work for a living.
Devoted care is the important part of this quote. I stress the importance of looking into different options when seeking out child care. Don’t pick a center because it’s nearby or affordable. Spend time with the people your child will be learning from and socializing with.
Keep in mind the strengths of putting your child in a preschool:
- building social bonds
- children love schedules
- opportunities to explore talents (art, music, reading)
- access to materials that are different then home
- strong bonds with teachers
- ability to catch learning difficulties early
- opportunities to be subjected to new people, places, and things (ex.food)
- ability to define themselves as individuals
So how can a “daycare love”?
I can’t answer that question in words…It’s in everything I do.
What a difficult post.
